It’s that moment in time that we’ve all experienced. You know of what I am speaking. That moment that we post a meme that we just discovered which strikes an emotion in us. In our minds it makes a point or elicits an emotion we would like to share. To us it makes a serious point while being humorous, so we share it hoping someone else might enjoy it also. What we don’t take into account or prepare for is having to defend it against scrutiny. While we think we know what the point is we are not prepared to defend it properly and share what our thought process was.
It starts slowly. An individual we will refer to as Intellect #1, or simply #1, questions whether you even know what the meme means and begins to spout about how it relates to his world view. You meekly defend yourself, but soon the conversation is joined by Intellect #2, or simply #2, who is philosophically opposite of #1. They quickly begin trading jabs in the comment string and in the process your mental acuity is subtly questioned while they whip out their intellects and start to to compare who’s is bigger and more impressive.
You suddenly realize what the mouse felt like. He woke up that morning, looked at himself in the mirror and said to himself ” It’s going to be a great day and I can do anything I set my mind to”. He is quickly brought back to reality as he exits his abode and encounters the neighborhood cat. As he is tossed from paw to paw and toyed with by the cat, he comes to the realization that mabye he is not in the same league as the cat and should stay on his side of the proverbial railroad tracks in the future. In the process of this humiliation another cat shows up and wants to play with the mouse also. A sparring match ensues between the two as to who gets to possess the rodent.
While they are deciding this, the humiliated rodent slinks off and does the one thing he can. He steals the metaphorical cheese by deleting the post and all their self-aggrandizing comments and then goes and writes a blog post making fun of the whole incident while basking in his mighty mastery of the written word.
